a-kzx Title: What do we know about Efficiency\, Effectiveness and Impact o
f Education and Research?Abstract: Education and research are two very imp
ortant sectors for the development and growth of people\, institutions and
countries. Their relevance and complexity have attracted the attention of
different disciplines to try to understand how they work and how it is po
ssible to measure their performance. In this seminar\, by presenting the l
ines of research in which I contributed starting from my Ph.D. Thesis on '
Comparative Efficiency and Productivity Analysis based on Nonparametric an
d Robust Nonparametric Methods. Methodology and Applications”\, I will mak
e a state of the art of our knowledge on these topics. It will emerge the
importance of having a framework for the development of metrics\, necessar
y to be able to evaluate their robustness. I will show how crucial is the
interdependence between theoretical hypotheses\, methodological aspects an
d data properties to achieve consistent empirical results and robust evalu
ations. I will present my main methodological research\, moving from condi
tional multidimensional measures with application to the case of European
universities rankings\, up to the development of statistical tests for two
-stage efficiency models. I will then review the works carried out during
some interdisciplinary research projects aimed at creating Sapientia\, the
Ontology of the multidisciplinary research evaluation\, and the integrati
on of different databases on research and teaching\, including some result
s obtained with the application of statistical techniques developed in phy
sics for complex systems. Finally\, I will outline my current methodologic
al research in progress and some results on evaluating evaluations\, inclu
ding the use of normative ethics for building “good” evaluations and the i
nvestigation of the conceptual problems connected to the assessment of “me
rit”.Short Bio: Cinzia Daraio graduated in Economics and Business at the U
